Nothing short of a massive Spirit led resistance governed by love to abolish prisons through massive clemency will satisfy Heaven. In August of 2017, before getting in her car to drive to work, Dr. McClenney pounded on the hood of the car and asked God repeatedly “Do you SEE the suffering of people in cages?”
Twenty minutes later, she arrived at work where Pastor Floretta Watkins showed her the Heavenly message shown in the photo above spray painted on the Avenue Church office building– “I See You.” It is a re-iteration of Exodus 3:7, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt, I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. I have come down to rescue them.” Heaven is demanding an Exodus of souls from prison cages so that they may worship God, in this nation, and globally. No state or government or individual can own another person’s body and soul. All souls belong to the God.
Professor McClenney holds a Ph.D in Hebrew Scriptures/Old Testament Studies from Duke University and a B.B.A in Finance and M.Div. from Howard University. She has pivoted the focus of her dissertation research and publications from kinship and incest to themes in the biblical text on atonement, redemption, prison abolition, mercy and restorative justice.
After seven years serving people who were homeless on the streets of D.C., inspired by homeless advocate Mitch Snyder, Dr. McClenney founded Exodus Foundation.org (EF.org). EF.org provides an award winning 24hr re-entry mentoring program with wrap around services for returning citizens.
